Errata

Here are errors I am currently aware of in the first print run of book, these came to my attention after the book hit the press:

  • On page 103 I wrote “it was Minsky who originally coined the term artificial intelligence”, but the coinage of the term artificial intelligence is typically attributed to John McCarthy.

  • On page 110 I suggested that Peter Dayan was a student of Richard Sutton, but he was a colleague of Richard Sutton not a student.

  • On page 238 I wrote “Eventually, after over a hundred years, the blackened clouds began to fade.” But evidence suggests that after the sun was blocked out for only around two years after the asteroid that killed the dinosaurs hit earth: https://agupubs.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.1029/2019GL085572

  • On page 238 the line "This was the Permian-Triassic extinction." should read "This was the Cretaceous-Paleogene extinction."

  • On page 251: "...in the aftermath of the Permian-Triassic extinction event." should be "...in the aftermath of the Cretaceous-Paleogene extinction event."

  • On Page 302 the table has the wrong headers, it should say “Reinforcing in Early Vertebrates” and then “Simulating in Early Mammals”. It currently says “Reinforcing in Early Bilaterians” and then “Simulating in Early Vertebrates”. The table should be:
